Review:
A huge thank you to the author and Harper Collins 360 for sending me an ARC copy of this fantastic book!
I was reading this book at work, while on my lunch breaks and before I clocked in, and everyone kept asking me what I was reading βnowβ or how my book was. And the best way I could describe this book is:
*clears throat*
A non binary self proclaimed raging lesbian watches their neighbour get murdered by some creepy dude or dudette (no assumptions here) in a plague mask. After reporting it to the police they get stalked by a creepy bird cult (like itβs properly creepy, and also very corrupt) and along with their best friend and crush, must solve said neighbours murder, before they get murdered. So in summary itβs a YA sapphic crime thriller.
Bianca has a long list fears, including, but not limited to blood, murder and fear #1 public speaking, but what I donβt think they realise is itβs actually not that long, and most of the fears (especially fear #1) are shared with most people. I loved watching Bianca face their fears and come out of their shell! Also theyβre nerdy, so itβs an immediate yes from meπ
There is a huge range of representation including Bianca who is non-binary, there are several trans characters and multiple lesbian couples. BTIAOE is a fantastic coming of age story thatβs written in a way that helps everyone explore themselves, helps with understanding different sexualities and suggests different forms of support and responses to those who are brave and come out. I think Biancaβs NB rep was really well done and so important; having books with all this rep helps open everyoneβs minds and makes the world a wee bit of a better placeπ
Like usual I was shocked by every plot twist, the last 10 chapters had me on the edge of my seat! But when it was all revealed I nearly dropped my book in betrayal and shock! It made so much sense and I honestly wanted to reread the whole book straight away with the new understanding of what happened; while simultaneously wanting to read it for the first time again!
I adored Bianca, they were witty and smart and vulnerable making them incredibly easy to root for. Anderson made me laugh and miss my best friends so bad with how supportive and just fantastic best friend energy! Bianca and Elaine are so cute I adore themπ₯Ή and Anderson and Layla are also freaking adorableπ₯Ή honestly I just love all the characters and I wish I could infuse myself into this book!
